Yavneh Academy Race Raises Money for Scholarship

Yavneh Academy, located in Paramus, NJ, held its 11th Annual 5K /1 Mile Fun Run on Sunday, November 8 at the Westfield Garden State Plaza. The Benjamin Schwartz Memorial 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is named for the brother of Yavneh parent Mendy Schwartz, and drew over 1,000 people who helped to raise nearly $45,000 for Yavneh Academy scholarship needs.

Participants in the event were treated to a pre-race workout with Donna Riker of HNH Fitness in Oradell, t-shirts and a buffet breakfast generously sponsored by local restaurants and businesses. The event, organized by Joanne Zayat and Amy Buchsbayew—both of Teaneck—culminated with the presentation of medals to the top runners in various age categories. The overall winner was Anthony Fatuzzo, age 31, from Fair Lawn, who came in at 16 minutes and 36.3 seconds. The winner of the one mile race Michael Brown, age 26, from Westwood, came in at 5 minutes 42.7 seconds.
