(Courtesy of Yavneh Academy) Yavneh Academy, located in Paramus, held its 14th Annual 5K /One Mile Fun Run on Sunday, May 19, at the Westfield Garden State Plaza. The Benjamin Schwartz Memorial 5K Run and One Mile Fun Run/Walk is named for the brother of Yavneh parent Mendy Schwartz and drew over 700 people who helped raise over $45,000 for Yavneh Academy. Thank you to all who sponsored the event, donated time and resources and of course to the runners!

Yavneh Academy Head of School Rabbi Jonathan Knapp commented, “This is one of my favorite events of the year! It generates such a sense of school spirit. The event is all inclusive; everyone can participate on some level and it promotes healthy living and exercise which is so important for all children and adults.”

Participants of the event were treated to a pre-race workout with Donna Riker of HNH Fitness in Oradell, T-shirts and a buffet breakfast generously sponsored by Bagels N More, Butterflake, Campmor, Cedar Market, Chef’s Kingdom, Executive Caterers, Ma’adan, Petak’s Caterers/Five Star Caterers, Restaurant Depot, S. Bertram, Sicomac Dairy, Teaneck Road Hot Bagels and YES Coffee. Mark Infield Orchestra provided upbeat music and TVAC kept all of the runners safe.

The event, organized by Amy Buchsbayew of Teaneck, Yavneh Academy Director of Development Robin Tare of Englewood and the 2019 Run Committee, culminated with the presentation of medals to the top runners in the various age categories. Congratulations to the overall winner Joshua Goldschmidt, age 44, from Passaic, who came in at 17 minutes and 23 seconds.
