Yavneh Academy’s sixth grade boys had a special hands-on mishmar. Middle school faculty member Josh Rossman taught the boys some of the basic laws of tzitzit, and then each boy had the opportunity to learn how to tie his own set of tzitzit. Guided by videos prepared by Rossman, as well as Rabbi Aaron Ross and Rossman’s instruction, the boys had the opportunity to develop a valuable skill. While the night officially ended with a dinner of pizza and ice cream, many of the boys took time the following day during recess to continue working on their tzitzit. The enthusiasm of the boys was palpable throughout the mishmar, and the sense of pride and accomplishment in being able to create their own mitzvah was clearly evident on their faces.
