Hillel says, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, who am I? If not now, when?”
Last week the Yavneh Academy middle school students, together with the help of the Yavneh Parent Auxiliary Association (YPAA), raised over $600 for the families involved in the tragedy in Jersey City. Blue and white bracelets with the last names of the victims printed on them were sold giving the students a palpable way to honor and remember what happened. The campaign was done to not only raise money but to teach the students the important lesson in helping neighboring communities when there is a need. Students lived Rabbi Hillel’s words by being there for others and helping out when there was a need and Yavneh is so proud of them.
