Yavneh Academy’s after-school club, Law Fair, won second place in the New Jersey State Bar Foundations’ Law Fair 2015 Competition for fifth graders. Students in the club created their own original mock trial case in which they had to conceive of an idea for a lawsuit, prepare witness statements for both sides and summarize the legal issues presented in the case. In the competition, students prepare a trial based on their case and the winning entries are acted out by the students, with a New Jersey attorney serving as the judge and students from other schools serving as the jurors. The club performed their mock trial case entitled “The Case of the Catchy Ebola” on May 27 at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick. The case is about a medical student who volunteers in a lab researching a cure for Ebola and catches the disease. Yavneh takes great pride in club participants Adir Abramowitz, Eytan Abramowitz, Shira Albert, Chloe Greene, Gabriel Greenfield, Jack Greenfield, Rachel Gutlove, Andy Rosenberg, Johanna Sokolow and Daron Welfeld.
