Yavneh Defeats Moriah in Soccer Championship

Coming off a promising 6-2 victory over the Kushner Cobras, Yavneh was back in the soccer championship. The highly anticipated game started as intensely as any championship game. The teams were evenly matched and both had multiple chances, but Moriah’s David Matheson scored a beautiful shot to put Moriah up 1-0, and it would stay that way for the rest of the quarter.

Yavneh came out stronger in the second quarter. Yavneh seventh grader Aiden Einhorn took a shot that was saved by Moriah goalie Jonathan Katz, but Yavneh captain Ian Bromberg was right there to put home the rebound and tie the game 1-1. Yavneh’s aggressive play by captain Zachary Levy and Jacob Dahan, assisted by Aiden Einhorn, led to two more goals in the second quarter to put Yavneh up 3-1 at the half.

At the start of the third quarter, the game was very tight when Yavneh scored two more goals from Eitan Gulich and Nathan Planer and seemed to seal the game. But Moriah wouldn’t give up and captain Nate Sholomon scored a goal to put Moriah back in the game. But the phenomenal goalkeeping by team-voted MVP Eliav Baron proved too much for Moriah and Yavneh ended up scoring one more goal by Eitan Gulich to close the game out and win the championship 6-2. The amazing coaching of Shamir Einhorn brought Yavneh Redhawks their second soccer championship. It was a great way to end the eighth graders’ final year.
