Yavneh Places First in Day School Math Competition

On Wednesday, May 15, a group of 10 seventh and eighth grade Yavneh students participated in the JKHA Math Masters Tournament, which was composed of an individual round and a team round. Students encountered questions in geometry, algebra, logic and probability. These were not questions that they could study for ahead of time, and therefore had to apply their previous knowledge to solve the questions. Yavneh students competed against students from the Golda Ochs Academy, the Jewish Educational Center, the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy and Yeshivat Noam.

Yavneh is proud to announce that Oran Goodman placed first in the eighth grade division and Jacob Feit placed second in the eighth grade division. Mayer Lerer placed first in the seventh grade division. The Yavneh team made up of Oran, Jacob, Mayer, Tzvi Schreiber and Yehuda Zinberg brought home a first place trophy in the team competition. Yavneh is also proud of the efforts of team members Matthew Schwartz, Avi Sebrow, Alex Zakheim, Ethan Badner and Yoni Rosenberg. The time and effort that the students put in leading up the competition was truly commendable, as they came during their lunch and recess to work on practice problems. Thank you to the Yavneh math team coaches Temima Winston, Annie Jaffe and Hilary Kurlansky.
