Yavneh RedHawks Storm Back to Win Home Opener

On Thursday night October 25, the hockey season began for two teams looking to start the year off strong after equally disappointing 2017 seasons. The Yavneh RedHawks hosted the SAR Sting in a game that featured two hungry and talented teams looking to make an early season statement. After pregame player introductions and national anthems, the SAR Sting led by Eitan Krauss came out firing on all cylinders, physically controlled the game and quickly took a 2-0 lead with Krauss scoring both. At the end of the first period, SAR held a 2-0 lead and outshot Yavneh 20-4. The second period began with Krauss completing his hat trick with a beautiful wrist shot on the rush, firing the ball to top corner just under the crossbar. It very much appeared that SAR was well on their way to a dominating performance. In the middle of the second period, Yavneh co-captain Jacob Feit put Yavneh on the board with a nifty wrist shot and Yavneh started showing life. The period ended with Yavneh down 3-1

The third period began with Yavneh tightening up the defense led by Jacob Horn, Yishaya Pearlman and Ezra Barishansky. On offense, assistant captain Eitan Geisler, combined with Feit, Charlie Hilbert and Moshe Nadritch led the relentless attack in taking more shots on SAR from all angles. Midway through the third the momentum changed as Yavneh’s co-captain Ryan Brandwein scored on a half-court shot that got past the SAR goalie. That goal brought life to the RedHawks team and fans and you could feel the tide turning. Minutes later, Feit scored his second goal of the game and Yavneh tied the game at three. SAR kept coming with shot after shot but Yavneh goalie and assistant captain Adam Farbowitz became a wall and turned each one aside including robbing Krauss from point blank range with a beautiful glove save to keep the game tied at three. With four minutes to go, Yavneh was awarded a power play and Hilbert poked home a rebound to give Yavneh a 4-3 lead, completing the comeback. Over the last three minutes of the game, SAR tried to tie the game with multiple shots from all angles, but Brandwein and Feit stood tall on defense and Farbowitz stopped multiple shots from in-close to secure the 4-3 win for Yavneh
