Only at Yavneh Academy does a picturesque blue sky and temperatures in the mid-60s cause one to say, “This is perfect chicken kashering weather!” And indeed, the seventh grade students took advantage of the beautiful day to have their turn at one of the most unique educational experiences around. Having learned about the laws of kashrut in their Chumash classes, the students had the opportunity to go behind the kashrut label and to understand what is involved in making a chicken acceptable for eating. Under the guidance of Rabbi Ross and the dedicated middle school Judaic Studies faculty, the students cleaned, inspected, salted and rinsed the birds and gained a much deeper understanding of the kashering process.
