The Yavneh Academy middle school brachot unit began with an exciting pop in both Talmud and science classes. In their Talmud classes, students discussed if there is a difference in the brachot between corn and popcorn. As part of the science lesson, students conducted an experiment using popcorn. They carefully weighed and measured kernels in order to calculate their density. Once the kernels were popped, the students recalculated the density and made comparisons between the kernels and the fluffy popcorn. Students also acted as engineers and used popcorn and toothpicks to construct free standing towers.
