Yavneh Teams Excel in Debate And Math Competitions

Yavneh Academy hosted the last debate of the year and met with students from RKHA, Flatbush and Moriah to debate the resolution that “The death penalty should be abolished in all 50 states and reserved only for crimes against the nation, such as treason or terrorism.” Students worked for weeks on this difficult topic. Mazal tov to Yavneh Academy students who won: Best Speaker (Maya Babich), 3rd best speaker (Maya Lavi), best team Maya Babich and Maya Lavi and the big prize—Best School!

Yavneh Academy would also like to extend a sincere mazal tov to their amazing captains—Celia Mermel and Sadie Becker. The captains have worked extremely hard over the last two years. They have helped train the current 7th graders and helped organize the team. They have also been top scorers at their debates. Thank you to the rest of the Yavneh 8th graders who made this year amazing— Ella Twersky, Stella Welfeld, Ezra Sparagen, Max Jacoby, Badger Herman, Lily Jacob and Ella Levy. Yavneh will miss you next year!

This past week, Yavneh Academy students also participated in the JKHA Math Masters Competition. Students competed in one individual and one team round. Gabriel Mincer placed 1st in the 8th grade bracket. Shane Dworkin finished 1st and Nathan Sichel finished 3rd in the 7th grade bracket. The 8th grade team, made up of Ilan Langman, Gabriel Mincer, DJ Freeman, Eitan Menasha and Ezra Spraragen finished 2nd in the team competition. Yavneh is proud of Brian Younger, Shaya Liben and Zeke Lipsky-Schainker for participating as well.
