Yavneh Academy will hold its 72nd Annual Dinner on Saturday evening, January 10, at Congregation Keter Torah in Teaneck. Nancy and Eric Fremed are guests of honor; Rabbi Yitzchok Furst and Morah Shoshana Susie Ammer are faculty award recipients; and The Yavneh Youth League and Howard Eisenstadter, Commissioner, will receive the Volunteer Service Award. Yavneh will also be celebrating the graduating class of 1989.
Nancy and Eric Fremed have been involved with Yavneh for over two decades. They are parents of four Yavneh graduates. In addition to serving as Yavneh’s immediate past president, Eric has served on Yavneh’s Board, executive board, and various committees, including Finance, Tuition Assistance, Accreditation, the Dinner Committee, and the newly formed Endowment Committee. Eric is a partner in the neurology practice of Drs. Rabin, Fremed, Prince, PC in Englewood Cliffs. His medical practice has generously sponsored many Yavneh events. Nancy and Eric are proud to have been founding members of Congregation Netivot Shalom in Teaneck.
Rabbi Yitzchok Furst, Yavneh Academy’s celebrated 5th-grade rebbe, has captivated the youngsters in his classroom for the past 23 years by bringing to life the study of Chumash, Mishnah, and Dinim through a myriad of exciting and creative teaching techniques and motivational group projects. Rabbi Furst uses interactive education as his students enthusiastically engage in the robust give and take of discovery and learning, which he tailors to meet the individual learning style of each student. He served on the Committee for the Development of Holocaust Studies for Lower Grades and was among the founding faculty team members on the Anti-Bullying Program Committee.
Morah Shoshana Susie Ammer’s commitment to Yavneh Academy began 22 years ago when she started teaching 3rd grade. She nurtures a love of Torah u mitzvot, middot tovot, history, language, culture, and ahavat Yisrael. From her earliest days at Yavneh, Morah Shoshana has been known for her dedication, hard work, and high academic standards. She earned the respect, friendship, and love of many of her students, their families, and her colleagues. She is an active member of the teacher’s liaison committee and is on the task force of the Israel Partnership 2-gether Program. Morah Shoshana’s classes have been partnering with the Rambam School of Nahariya for over five years. She also has eight grandchildren currently enrolled in Yavneh and enjoys seeing them every day.
Howard Eisenstadter, parent of three Yavneh graduates, has been leading the Yavneh Youth League (YYL) since 2009, and has been actively involved with it since 2003. YYL provides an appropriately competitive Shomer Shabbat softball league to children across the North Jersey area. In 2014 there were 325 players across 27 teams. YYL exists through the incredibly hard work of its administrators and coaches, including Michael Berman, John Lofstock, David Markowitz, and Steven Wechsler.
