Yeshiva at the Jersey Shore, a progressive yeshiva day school located in Ocean, NJ with an Early Childhood Center in East Brunswick, is proud to announce the following honorees for its 10th Anniversary Dinner: Suzie and Rabbi Dr. Elie Tuchman, Guests of Honor; Malka and David Friedman, Distinguished Service Award and Barbara Elem, Outstanding Educator Award. The dinner will be held at the Young Israel of East Brunswick.
Suzie Tuchman, an artist specializing in book arts and printmaking, has been a tireless source of support and energy for YJS, working behind the scenes on countless events and projects. Rabbi Elie Tuchman, EdD is the founding Head of School of YJS, and has been instrumental in every aspect of the school’s growth for the past 10 years. A highly respected Jewish educator with 25 years experience in the field, Rabbi Tuchman is a leader in applying the principles of progressive education to yeshiva day schools, and is particularly known for his pioneering approach to integrating Judaic and General Studies. In their many years of service to the YJS community, both Suzie and Rabbi Tuchman have been instrumental in bringing the vision of the YJS founders to fruition. They have four children, the youngest of whom is a proud YJS alumnus.
Malka and David Friedman are the dedicated parents of two YJS alumni and four currently enrolled students. The Friedmans have lived in Highland Park for over 15 years, and were the first family from Middlesex County to join the school. Both Malka and David work in the software industry, but each has found the time to become an active and service-oriented member of the YJS parent body. David has served on the Board of Directors for four years, and both he and Malka have shown a generosity and willingness to get involved that has helped YJS to grow and thrive.
Barbara Elem is a cherished member of the YJS faculty who has been teaching for almost 30 years. Mrs. Elem and her late husband moved to East Brunswick in 1987, where they raised their three children as part of the Young Israel congregation, a community that she has come to hold close to her heart. Mrs. Elem joined the YJS staff eight years ago, as the school’s first 3rd-grade teacher. She now teaches 5th grade, and is known for coordinating school-wide integration programs that are unique and experiential, and for incorporating art and music into her lessons. Mrs. Elem is an example of the top-notch teachers who make YJS a place of excellence, and she is much loved by students, colleagues and parents alike.
