New York—Playing for the first time in 2014, with its most recent game back on December 18, the Yeshiva women’s basketball team lost its first Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) contest of the year, dropping the Maccabees to 5-7 (0-1 HVIAC) this season, while Albany College of Pharmacy improved to 12-2 (3-1 HVIAC).

Yeshiva was led by Rebecca Yoshor with a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds. She added three blocked shots in the contest as well. Haley David added eight points for the Maccabees and had seven rebounds. Stephanie Greenberg and Naomi Gofine had nine rebounds each for Yeshiva; Gofine added four blocked shots.

The game went back and forth through most of the first half, and there were three lead changes in the opening stanza. Yeshiva took an 18-17 lead with 7:32 remaining before failing to score the rest of the half. The visiting Panthers outscored the Maccabees 11-0 over the final seven plus minutes of the first half to go into halftime with a 28-18 lead.

ACP maintained control of the game in the second half and gradually pulled away. The Panthers never led by less than 10 over the final 20 minutes and were in front by as many as 29 points before the game ended.

The Lady Macs have played their share of tough opponents this year including nationally ranked Division III Wheaton College and even Division II Mercy College. Despite competing against elite level opponents the Macs Women have been putting up some stellar numbers and getting national attention. As of this writing Rebecca Yoshor, a Capital One Academic All American last season is averaging a double-double, with 16.3 points per game and 16.8 rebounds per game. Through the week of January 26, Yoshor leads all NCAA schools in rebounds per game. Stephanie Greenberg leads the team with 17.8 points per game and first year player Julia Owen is averaging 16 points per game as well. Greenberg is also tied for third in the NCAA Division III in steals per game, averaging 4.5 a game, while Owen is one of a handful of players in the nation to compile a triple-double this season, which she did against Division II opponent Mercy College.
