The Yeshiva University women’s and men’s cross country programs finished first overall in its respective races at the College of Staten Island Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The women’s team earned gold in the 6k race with 50 points, while the men were victorious in the 8k race with 45 points.
Senior Lyndsey Pere earned first place overall, with a time of 25:24.3. She crossed the finish line 1:16.9 before the second place finisher. Senior Alexandra Zimmer earned a top-ten finish, finishing eighth overall with a time of 27:56.4. Classmate Shoshana Mond was the 13th runner to complete the race, crossing the finish line at the 28:51.8 mark, while senior Miriam Einhorn and junior Yael Jakobov finished 17th and 18th respectively. Junior Hilla Katz rounded up the Yeshiva runners with a 38th place finish.
On the men’s side, junior Avraham Raichman finished second overall, completing the race in 29:01.0. Coming in fourth place was senior Michael Bouaziz with a time of 29:23.5. Senior Jake Schrier was the 10th runner to complete the race, crossing the finish line at the 30:46.8 mark. Classmate Jonathan Shedlo came in 12th place at 31:12.4, while a pair of freshman, Solomon Shulman and Yudi Meltzer, finished 17th and 18th respectively. Sophomore Jonathan Schwartz finished 20th overall, junior Moshe Joseph Rubin came in 28th place and sophomore Avi Gordin was the 30th runner to cross the finish line.
The Maccabees will compete in the Skyline Conference Championships, at Broadway Avenue Park, on Sunday October 30, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
