New York—For the first time, Yeshiva University is making its unique and expanded catalog of more than 40 summer courses available to students from any institution.
Offering fully online as well as traditional and blended classes, the courses span majors and disciplines, including the hard and social sciences, business, history, English literature, and Judaic studies. All are taught by experts in their fields at YU’s Sy Syms School of Business and colleges of Arts and Sciences. The summer program has been augmented by the resources of YU Global, YU’s new online initiative.
“YU Summer School provides students with the opportunity to spend their summer studying online or in face-to-face classes in New York City with exceptional faculty members in a stimulating learning environment,” said Dr. Selma Botman, provost and academic vice president at YU. “YU offers unparalleled Judaic studies courses as well as outstanding classes in natural sciences, social sciences, business, and the humanities.”
Some of the program’s highlights include “Nachmanides on the Pentateuch,” taught by renowned Nachmanides scholar Dr. Michelle Levine, associate professor of Bible at Stern College for Women; “Courts and Social Change,” a fully online political science course featuring lectures from major figures in the field and led by Dr. Akiva Covitz, executive director of YU Global and a former lecturer at Harvard Law School; and “Masterpieces in NYC,” an art history course that will make the most of the Israel Henry Beren Campus’s location in the heart of midtown Manhattan, incorporating frequent visits to galleries in world-famous museums.
YU Summer School also offers a host of pre-med courses and graduate school prerequisites that New York universities and colleges don’t frequently make available over the summer, including courses in microbiology, human physiology, chemistry, and physics, all featuring hands-on lab classes with close mentoring from professors.
Business classes range from “Systematic Inventive Thinking” to courses that focus on the principles of marketing, finance, accounting, and information systems, and also offer rare opportunities for students to complete foundational courses over the summer—many of which are online, accommodating students’ busy summer schedules by allowing them to pursue internships as well.
