In culmination of their reading unit about inventors, the fifth-grade students at Yeshivat He’Atid were tasked with developing an invention that could help solve a problem in classrooms. The students learned about the importance of assistive technology and how it helps students in various ways, specifically students with disabilities. In socially-distanced groups, and through the use of technology (Google Docs), the students brainstormed ideas, set goals, planned a business model and presented their assistive technology “pitch” using Google Slides. These inventions included escalating wheelchairs, focus glasses and an app that helps students with dyslexia.
