Yeshivat He’Atid’s kindergarten students are getting ready for Chanukah! He’Atid strives for its students to develop a deep connection to Yahadut, and even at their young age, gain an understanding of Jewish History and the roots of our people. The theme for Chanukah learning in kindergarten focuses on the concept of “bayamim hahem, bazman hazeh.” Students are learning about the life of the Jewish people during the time of Chanukah and comparing it to our life as Jewish people today. They learned that during that time in history, the Jewish people went to daven at the Beit Hamikdash, but now we go to a beit knesset. The children also learned how we used to light a menorah in the Beit HaMikdash and how it was different from the Chanukiah we know today which we light on Chanukah. As a special Chanukah activity, students viewed images of mosaic artwork which was popular during the time of the Chanukah story. To connect bayamim hahem to bazman hazeh, the children made beautiful tile chanukiot with mosaic patterns, following the art style that was popular so many years ago!
