As Yeshivat He’Atid’s pre-k classes started learning about Chanukah, the students began exploring different types of candles. The children were excited to spot birthday candles, Shabbat candles and finally, Chanukah candles in the classroom! As a fun experiment, the children predicted which candle would burn the fastest. First, they graphed their predictions. The children chose between a Shabbat, birthday and Chanukah candle. Then, they tested their predictions and went outside to conduct the experiment. With the help of a flame, they watched as each candle burned. They even recorded the results. Students now know that the birthday candle takes the shortest amount of time to burn because it had the least amount of wax. The Shabbat candle took the longest because although it has a larger wick, it had the most wax! The students had so much fun connecting science and Chanukah.
