In honor of Black History Month, the Yeshivat He’Atid fourth-graders researched famous and notable Black Americans who contributed to our country in science, politics, medicine, history and the arts. The children researched historic people, including Lloyd Austin, current Secretary of Defense and one-time Secretary of Defense Colin Powell; Mae Jemison, the first Black female astronaut in space, Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court Justice; and Katherine Johnson, a mathematician whose work was critical to the success of the Apollo space flights. Everyone learned so much about these distinguished Americans! It was an excellent way to honor their history and what they accomplished.
