At Yeshivat He’Atid students learned about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King and the power of his words. Among other books, they read “Martin’s Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” The class spoke about words of encouragement that have inspired them when tackling a difficult task. Kindergartners read the “The Crayon Box” and wrote words that described their own unique qualities. They discussed that every person brings his own strengths to the group.
First graders made a Mural of Inspiring Words, words said to them by coaches, camp counselors, teachers, parents and siblings that have helped them.
Second, third and fourth graders watched video clips of Dr. King’s speeches and wrote about his dream, as well as their own dreams for humanity.
Students in Grades 3 and 4 researched online the March on Washington and the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and wrote about the words that inspired the movement.
