Teaneck–Parents of children at Yeshivat He’Atid have told JLBC that school officials are “under contract” to purchase a property at 1500 Queen Anne Road in Teaneck, directly adjacent to Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC). At press time, JLBC was still waiting for official confirmation from the school’s chairman of the board.
Yeshivat He’Atid is a Bergen County yeshiva day school that combines blended learning (using both traditional and 21st-century online learning methods) with a strong Judaic Studies curriculum, and is attempting to offer a 40% cost savings over other day school education in the region. As the school has been operating for only three years, the oldest students are currently in 3rd grade.
“I truly feel that this school is a gift,” said Elana Greenberg, a Yeshivat He’Atid parent. “We were extremely nervous parents heading into the pilot year with a child in the oldest grade and three years later, we could not be more pleased with our decision!
“Our children are part of such a warm community from the teachers to the parent body and have truly benefited from the blended learning approach, as their teachers really know them academically and personally. I can only imagine how much more is in store with a larger building to expand in,” she told JLBC.
The school’s current facility at 139 South Washington Avenue in Bergenfield is a rental. Formerly the incubator home of Yeshivat Noam, the space is operating at maximum capacity. A committee was formed 18 months ago to find a permanent home and scouted almost 100 potential locations in a 10-mile range from Teaneck, before narrowing their search to the area where an overwhelming majority of the school’s families live. The property at 1500 Queen Anne is in a central location and is surrounded by other Jewish schools.
The school’s board has in the past indicated that there will be no mandatory building-fund fee, and that there will be no tuition increase as a result of any building purchase. However, they have and most likely will continue to actively solicit donations from anyone able to contribute.
