The Yeshivat Noam first graders were proud to present the non-fiction book that they authored called the “Faces of Yeshivat Noam.” After spending time learning about what the nonfiction genre is, and understanding its features, the class was ready to write a book. The unit began by interviewing teachers and staff at Yeshivat Noam to become experts on the topic. They took the responses and transformed them into paragraphs. Each child learned that a paragraph includes a topic sentence, three or more details and a concluding sentence. Paragraphs were drafted, revised and edited. Finally, each child added a photograph and caption of the person they interviewed. The students had a blast learning about nonfiction and getting to know the “Faces of Yeshivat Noam.”
