As part of the Yeshivat Noam fourth grade social studies curriculum focusing on the growth of the Eastern region of the U.S., the students visited the Tenement Museum in the Lower East Side. They explored the Bialystoker Synoagogue, Tenement Museum and enjoyed some famous pickles at The Pickle Guys! To prepare for the trip, the students learned about tenements by carefully examining objects that could be found inside. They acted like historians and described what they saw and began to think about how these objects may have been used. To further their study about immigration in the U.S., students are researching where their grandparents and great-grandparents came from, and what, ultimately brought them to the U.S.
