According to Caryn Nat, the curriculum coordinator for general studies at Yeshivat Noam’s elementary school, “In Our Readerly Life curriculum, we model for our students what they should be thinking and how they should be responding to the literature that they read, respond to and write about.” The fifth grade teachers read Among the Hidden, by Margaret Peterson Haddix, and modeled how to form a line of thinking to develop students’ literary essays.
