Yeshivat Noam Third Grade Has Biography Fair

After weeks of deep diving into biography, the Yeshivat Noam Third Graders had the opportunity to choose a person of focus. They spent time learning everything that they needed to know about why their person is important. The students practiced taking notes on significant life time events using color coded post-its for childhood and adulthood. They then organized the information into beautiful paragraphs that highlighted their person’s accomplishments.

To prepare for the biography fair the third graders created colorful display boards. Each board had a timeline, some photos, a famous quote, their writing and an info card about their person.

The highlight for most students was creating the heads in art with Ms. Becker-Lizotte. In order to create the collage faces of their biography subject, the third grade looked at the artwork of Israeli artist Hanoch Piven. Piven is famous for his portraits using collage materials. The most interesting part of Piven’s artwork is that the objects he uses to create his portraits make sense for the person he’s creating. For example, a portrait of a United States president uses American flags for eyes, and a portrait of a famous singer uses a microphone as her nose. After looking at examples of Piven’s creations, the students were presented with a table full of collage materials. They worked to create their biography subject using materials and objects that makes sense for their person based on what they had learned.
