(Courtesy of Shalshelet) Yeshivat Shalshelet, the first yeshiva day school for children with language-based learning differences, had a remarkable first year and is poised to begin a second incredible year this fall. Shalshelet recently moved to the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, where it will grow in size, welcoming nearly double the number of students and staff members.
Under the continued leadership of its head of school, Shulamit Roth, M.S., CCC-SLP, Shalshelet’s growing team includes its new executive director, Elizabeth Naor, who brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience as both a professional and community lay leader.
“As I step into this role, I am filled with excitement and a deep sense of purpose,” said Naor. “Shalshelet is a remarkable institution that has already demonstrated its commitment to seeing students with language-based learning differences thrive, and I’m eager to collaborate with passionate educators in specialized education as we begin our second year.”
Shalshelet is thrilled to be adding two rebbeim to its Judaic studies staff. Rabbi Moshe Margulies and Rabbi Ilan Acoca will enhance the growing knowledge and connection Shalshelet students feel to their Judaism and the Jewish community—especially crucial for students with language-based learning differences in our heavily text-based culture.
Shalshelet is also excited about the addition of Amanda Jedwab, MSW, its new school social worker.
“The development and support of our students’ social-emotional wellbeing is of paramount importance and we are so excited to provide our students with a strong foundation that promotes both academic and social-emotional success,” said Roth.
With the addition of a sixth grade class this year and a growing number of students in grades two through five, the Shalshelet teaching staff will be growing this year as well, with the addition of Jamie Gabay, Tamar Lakritz, MSW, Nechama Landsman, Tess Nordlicht, Tziporah Ciment and Elisheva Ciment.
The school is also pleased to announce the addition of Margi Saks, who joins the team as Shalshelet’s new math specialist, and Tzipora Schnur, Shalshelet’s new dedicated speech language pathologist.
“One year ago we were preparing to open our doors for the first time,” said Roth. “We were hopeful that we could provide specialized yeshiva day school education in which students with language-based learning differences would gain skills and confidence in their abilities and themselves. As we embark upon our second year, we are proud that our vision has become a reality, and our growing staff looks forward to welcoming our new and returning students in September for another incredible year together.”
