From Rookie of the Year to Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the portfolio of awards are starting to pile for Yisrael Feld who was named by the Skyline Conference as its men’s basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 2013-14 season.
Feld accelerated in the classroom in his first year at the Washington Heights campus, amassing the highest grade point average amongst the Skyline Conference’s men’s basketball players who were named to its first or second All-Conference teams. A men’s basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented to an All-Conference performer who carries the highest grade point average (minimum 3.30) cumulative for the fall and spring semester in the sport. Feld’s cumulative GPA was a 3.48, higher than any other Skyline’s All Conference men’s basketball player.
The Teaneck product proved his prowess on the basketball court as well. In his first year with the Maccabees, Feld was named Skyline’s Rookie of the Year after averaging 16.0 points per game, along with 3.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists. He was named the Skyline’s Rookie of the Week five times during the season as well.
“It’s such an accomplishment to be recognized for your athletic performance, but to top that off with an award for excellence in the classroom is amazing,” said Yeshiva University Director of Athletics Joe Bednarsh. “I am so proud of Yisrael and all of the awards he earned this season, but I am most especially proud that he is showing it is possible at YU to achieve excellence athletically and academically.”
