(Courtesy of YIPC) The Young Israel of Passaic-Clifton introduced Sara Younger as its new youth director this past Shabbat, Parshat Vaera. Together with the shul’s education and youth committees, Younger will be creating programs and opportunities intended to engage the synagogue’s youth, strengthen their connection to the shul and instill within them a love of Torah, tefillah, Medinat Yisrael and Am Yisrael.
Younger has an extensive background serving youth in a variety of shul, camp and other professional settings. Most notably, she is known to many as the director of Camp Summer Playland and Playland Parties.
In a letter to parents, Younger wrote, “I am going to be focusing on both Shabbos and weekday programming. The goal is to create experiences that are engaging, meaningful and which will build a stronger connection to our shul and to yiddishkeit.”
Among Younger’s responsibilities will be developing programming for the shul’s youth, who range in age from nursery school through 12th grade. She will help craft a long-term strategic vision, give specific focus to weekly Shabbat groups (for children through sixth grade), develop programming for both girls and boys through high school age and run a number of weekday events throughout the school year. In addition, she will coordinate meetings and events specifically for the teen youth leaders, which will provide guidance, oversight and the opportunity for them to further develop their skills as leaders and role models.
