TEANECK, NJ –The Yeshiva University men’s soccer team picked up their first win of the season on Sunday night, defeating visiting York College, 7-2, at Votee Park in Teaneck, New Jersey. With the victory, the Maccabees of Yeshiva improve to 1-2 on the year while the Cardinals of York drop to 0-2.

The host Maccabees exploded out of the gate, with two goals within the first two minutes. First, freshman Juan Cotton took a cross from senior Avi Baron to put Yeshiva on top 1-0. Junior Itamar Ben David later took a ball on a breakaway, catching the keeper playing shallow and getting the strike through, assisted by senior Daniel Amar.

In the fourteenth minute, sophomore Agustin Cygiel, assisted by freshman Julian Ribak, scored off a corner kick to make the score 3-0. Three minutes later, Amar put a shot through, taking a pass from freshman Dan Cohen. Cohen would assist on the fifth goal as well in the 31st minute, a blast from 40 yards out by senior Joey Krombach. Finally, Amar scored his second goal of the game off a free kick in the 41st minute, giving Yeshiva a commanding 6-0 advantage.

York finally got on the board just before the half, an unassisted score from senior Ricardo Bartley. The teams went into halftime with the Maccabees leading 6-1.

That remained the score for much of the second half, up until Amar fed senior Rafi Friedman on a breakaway in the 80th minute for the hosts’ seventh goal. York would score late, but would come no closer.

Goalkeeper Maor Feinstein earned his first win of the season in net, recording four saves. York netminder Stefano Archangelo made four stops. For the game, Yeshiva outshot their opponents, 19-10.
