Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men’s soccer team ended their 2015 season in the quarterfinals of the Skyline Conference Championship Playoffs on Sunday as they lost to host Farmingdale State College, 2-0 in Farmingdale, New York.
The Maccabees (7-8-2) reached the conference playoffs for the first time in school history, playing as the sixth seed. The Rams (10-8-1), hosting as the third overall seed in the playoffs, advance to the Skyline Conference Semifinals.
“The team played a good game today, and credit for Farmingdale for capitalizing on the few chances they had,” Head Coach Josh Pransky said. “We are disappointed that we have not [gone] further in the playoffs, but that feeling is a good thing. It means we are getting to the point where our expectation for ourselves is success and so any misstep is a disappointment. We wouldn’t want it any other way.” This was just the third time this season Yeshiva was shut out.
FSC struck first with 34:00 remaining in the second half on a header from sophomore midfielder John Kender (Farmingdale, New York) off Anthony Leonick’s (Levittown, New York) throw-in. Only 7:13 later, Kender sent a pass through the defense to set up senior midfielder J.T. Famularo (Levittown, New York) for the score and a 2-0 Farmingdale State advantage. Sophomore goalkeeper Maor Feinstein (Gold Coast, Australia / Havat Hanoar Haziony) had a strong performance with five saves in net over the course of the game.
“I am exceedingly proud of our guys for putting together an incredible season. It goes without saying that we are very excited for the future.” Pransky added. “It has been an honor to work with this group and be a part of Yeshiva history this season. Every single one of our players has been influential on this journey and I am honored to have had the opportunity to be on it with them.”
Congratulations to the Maccabees on their breakthrough season.
