(Courtesy of yumacs.com) The Yeshiva University student athletes chose to take a stand over the past month.
Last Tuesday, November 20, the Yeshiva University men’s basketball team held a special tribute to the victims of the Pittsburgh Tree of Life Synagogue shooting at the home opener. Players wore special warm-up shirts to honor the victims, a number 11 jersey for the Tree of Life was unveiled by Dr. Ari Berman, president of Yeshiva University, and Chairman of the Board Moshael J. Straus, in the gym, to be displayed for the entire season. The team observed an 11-second moment of silence and the co-captain of the men’s basketball team, Simcha Halpert, spoke about the significance of the event. The YU athletic roller hockey, men’s soccer and women’s basketball teams also included a #StrongerThanHate message in solidarity with Pittsburgh at their respective games over the past few weeks.
In addition to the tribute, the 2017-18 Yeshiva University Skyline Championship teams—the men’s basketball team as well as the men’s and women’s tennis teams—celebrated their winning seasons with a banner raising ceremony preceding the game. The event included a special game day show featuring Nachum Segal, host of JM in the AM and president of the Nachum Segal Network on the MacsLive network as well.
