(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom) On Thursday evening, December 19 at the Bris Avrohom Center, Congregation Shomrei Torah Ohel Yosef Yitzchok, a special Yud Tes Kislev farbrengen was held. It is customary to celebrate this date, as it is known by Lubavitch as the new year of Chassidus. The celebration commemorated the 225th anniversary of the liberation of the first Lubavitcher Rebbe, Reb Shneur Zalman of Liadi, author of the Tanya and the Shulchan Aruch, who was imprisoned in Petersburg, Russia for spreading Chassidus.
Many people participated in this great event and seudas mitzvah. The guest speaker was Rabbi Yosef Katzman of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. He held the audience spellbound for five hours as he explained the significance of the day, the importance of learning Chassidus daily, and regaled them with stories of the Alter Rebbe and our Rebbe.
At the farbrengen, Rabbi Avremy Kanelsky made a siyum on Maseches Pesachim. A lavish dinner was served, co-sponsored by Binyomin Felzenberg in memory of his wife, Barbara ob”m.
