(Courtesy of YUHSG) Yeshiva University High School for Girls (YUHSG), also known as Central, has announced the appointment of Aliza Gewirtz as its next principal following a thorough selection process involving parents, faculty and key stakeholders. The board of trustees unanimously approved her appointment, with Gewirtz set to officially begin her role on July 1.

A proud alumna of YUHSG and Yeshiva University, Gewirtz brings a wealth of experience, vision and dedication to the role. Known for her dynamic approach to education, her ability to develop innovative programs, and her commitment to student growth, Gewirtz embodies the mission and values of YUHSG. She has impressed the school community with her unique insights into student development, faculty collaboration and academic excellence, alongside a deep dedication to Torah and Jewish education.

Gewirtz’s academic and professional credentials reflect her lifelong commitment to chinuch. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Judaic studies with a minor in business, from Stern College for Women and a master’s degree in Jewish education from the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration. Additionally, she holds a master of social work degree from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work and is a licensed social worker. Before college, she spent a year studying at Michlelet Mevaseret Yerushalayim in Jerusalem.

In her most recent role as dean of students at YUHSG, Gewirtz played a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and thriving environment for students. During the 2024–2025 school year, she partnered with Associate Principal Leah Moskovich to guide the school through a period of transition. Moskovich will continue her role as associate principal, working closely with Gewirtz to lead the school forward.

Together, Gewirtz and Moskovich will ensure YUHSG remains a leading institution in Jewish education, deeply integrated with Yeshiva University, Stern College for Women, and the Sy Syms School of Business.

The school also expressed its gratitude to outgoing principal Bracha Rutner for her years of exceptional leadership, dedication and impactful contributions to YUHSG.

Although Gewirtz’s official start date is several months away, she remains an active leader within the school. In the coming months, YUHSG plans to provide opportunities for parents and community members to connect with her and hear more about her vision for the school’s continued success.

The YUHSG community looks forward to this new chapter under Gewirtz’s leadership.
