YYL Junior Boys Championship

Right Above Roofing outlasts
The Jasko Development LLC Nationals.

(YYL) The Jasko Development Nationals coasted to the YYL Junior Boys championship game, capitalizing on the playoff bye that came with being the #1 seed and by beating the Embrace Family Orthodontic Tigers in their semifinal game. The #4 seeded Right Above Roofing Rockies took a harder road, beating the Camp Shalom Marlins on a Sunday morning, then coming back to beat the Westrock Insurance Agency Guardians in the afternoon, persisting through three extra-innings under the sun and beating their in-season rivals for the first time in three attempts.

Anchored by infield stars Kivi Blachman and Isaac “Gold Glove” Fass, with Solomon Obstfeld continuing his reliable play at first base, the Rockies turned several doubles during this early morning Father’s Day matchup. David Friedman, possibly the best second grade power hitter in the league, hit two runs; solid second baseman Ezra Furleiter got on base three times; Yaacov Zimmerman hit a powerful double resulting in three RBI. Twin brothers Ariel and Zev Cohen made an impressive one-two punch in the lineup, Dovid Zomberg gained confidence all year and got on base at key times and Adam Gordon was the most improved Rockie, raising his batting average all year and becoming a reliable base runner. Behind the plate was Zachy Furleiter, who found his way to the basepaths all throughout the playoffs. And finally, it was Jonah Yedlin, whose defensive skills have grown during the season’s final few games that squeezed a high pop to secure the last out and give Right Above Roofing a 14-7 win over Jasko Development, before both teams were treated to well earned ice cream.

Their team spirit, constant improvement and clutch play will give the Rockies indelible memories of their 2024 YYL season.
