YYL Senior Girls Championship: Camp Shalom Beats Valley Brook Veterinary Hospital

(YYL) In an exciting game, from start to finish, that was played on Erev Shabbos to avoid graduation conflicts, the Camp Shalom Marlins beat the Valley Brook Veterinary Tigers 10-7 in extra innings to win the senior girls YYL championship. Led by seven strong innings on the mound from Tamar Pavel, the Marlins overcame an early deficit to lead for most of the game and took a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the last inning. But the Tigers did not give up and, anchored by two of their eighth graders, star first basewoman Avigayil Markowitz and pitcher Avital “The Law ‘’ Kapustin, tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, posting four consecutive doubles. With one out and two on, the Tigers had what looked to be the game winning hit up the middle, only for veteran gold glove second basewoman Eva Yuster to snag the liner cleanly at the peak of her jump, step on second and turn a double play by beating the speedy baserunner back to the bag. The energized Marlins then scored three runs in the top of the seventh on silver slugger Sivan Sher’s third home run of the game. “Tamar Terrific” Pavel struck out the last two batters in the bottom of the seventh to seal a very entertaining victory and the first YYL championship for most girls and coaches on the Marlins.
