(JKHA Sports) At last week’s home opener for the JKHA middle school girls hockey team, the official championship banner from the stellar 2022 season was raised in the JKHA/RKYHS hockey rink. Current RKYHS freshmen returned for their banner ceremony from their eighth grade season. After a banner raising ceremony where each player was announced, the team received commemorative championship sweatshirts.
The current JKHA middle school girls hockey team then faced off against Ramaz for their first home game. The final score was 5-1, Kushner, with goals scored and skillful assists made from multiple members of the team. Goals came in from eighth graders Sarah Jager, Rya Leeds, Laya Rosenberg, and Yael Sharbat and seventh grader Zoe Keiser. With a number of returning players from the championship team, new members who show great promise, and being coached by JKHA/RKYHS hockey alumna Julia Morreale (RKYHS ‘18) the team is excited for this season.
The JKHA middle school girls hockey season has been off to a great start. In their first game they faced off against Yavneh, coming to a tie which was played out in overtime, with Yavneh scoring a winning goal in sudden death overtime. The middle school team also packed snack bags at their home opener for members of the Ramaz opposing team to enjoy after their long trip, continuing the initiative begun by the boys teams of providing snacks to visiting teams in acknowledgment of their often long travel time.
