It’s Not My Fault, It’s Hers

Dear Shayna B.,

My best friend and I are fighting. I really don’t think I am wrong, and my friend doesn’t think she is wrong. I really don’t hate her; however, I don’t want to apologize, because I am right, and I guess she feels the same. I don’t want to lose my best friend, but I just can’t bring myself to apologize for something I’m NOT wrong about. Please help!

Not-So-Sorry Shoshana

Dear Not-So-Sorry Shoshana,

You have to choose. Is being right more important than your friendship? I know it is annoying, but do what has to be done. You can do it. It’s just one word: sorry. If you need time, I get it, but think to yourself about how much you enjoy your friend’s company, and conversation. Surely you’d rather be happy and have a good time with your friend than sulk about her faults.

But if neither one of you can apologize, maybe you can teach your parrot to say, “Sorry.” If you don’t have one, buy one. It’ll be worth it. They are very good at imitating. You can call your friend and have your parrot do the talking. Your friend will be happy, and only you and your parrot will know what really happened. Hopefully your parrot won’t mind getting involved.
