After reading the book “The Hundred Dresses” where the main character was teased for always wearing the same faded dress, JKHA second graders organized a school-wide clothing drive to help those in need. Right before Thanksgiving, the second graders brought the many bags they collected filled with clothing, shoes, blankets and more to RKYHS to members of the RKYHS Homeless Awareness Club. The students were overwhelmed to see how much clothing they had collected all together—over 60 bags!
They were so gratified to know that all the clothing was delivered by the RKYHS Homeless Awareness Club to Newark on their pre-Thanksgiving visit to help those experiencing homelessness at the Urban Renewal Shelter. The RKYHS group also brought with them the cornbread that the second graders made during their Turkey Trot Thanksgiving program.
