MTA Sophomores Catch Epic Yankees 9th Inning Win

This past week, Yeshiva University High School for Boys (MTA) 10th graders spent their “Sophomore Night Out” watching the New York Yankees take on the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. Following school, the boys headed straight to the stadium and made it in time for the first pitch. The game started off as a heated pitcher’s duel, with each team having just one hit through the first six innings. All the students enjoyed themselves watching the game and hanging out with friends.

After Boston players Mookie Betts and David Ortiz helped the Red Sox gain a 3-0 lead in the 8th inning, most fans in the stadium left the stadium in defeat, but the MTA sophomores stayed in the hopes of an amazing comeback. Little did they know that the Yankees indeed had it in them! After the Yankees loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth down 3-1 with two outs, Mark Teixeira came to the plate; Head of School Rabbi Joshua Kahn promised to provide donuts the next day if a grand slam was hit. Sure enough, the stadium soon erupted when Teixeira launched a dramatic walk off grand slam home run to give the Yankees the exciting 5-3 win.

On the way back to the buses, the sophomores celebrated the Yankees’ come-from-behind victory over the Red Sox with each other and with other Yankee fans walking around the stadium. And they continued the celebration the next day with the donuts that the school provided!
