Bruriah’s Culture Club attended “Romeo and Juliet” at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center.
The students were struck by the immense talent on display as well as the liberties the director took in his unique modifications from the original texts.
“It was the best experience of my life!” Senior Ella Keigher enthused. “It was really meaningful to see the play come alive after having learned it in school. I was able to reflect on the analysis we did and appreciate the various interpretations that the director chose. And to do all of that in opera form, at Lincoln Center, was incredible.”
Rebecca Fisch, another senior, said, “I have never seen anything like this before. It added a whole new level of understanding to the play that I hadn’t considered before.”
“What I love about the Culture Club,” commented Margueya Poupko, faculty adviser and director of academic enrichment, “is that it affords opportunities to students that they may not have otherwise had. That level of intellectual curiosity and authentic thirst for knowledge are so much of what I love about teaching at Bruriah.”
