The TABC varsity hockey team hosted the SAR Sting on Thursday night, November 21, in what proved to be the biggest test so far of TABC’s young season. Both sides were unbeaten heading in, with the Sting boasting a roster full of all-star juniors newly promoted to varsity after an undefeated JV championship run last year. For the first time this season, the Storm weren’t able to establish an early lead. Both teams looked compact defensively and it was unclear which team was going to blink first. After a testy exchange with fewer than five minutes remaining in the first period, SAR paid a price, with the referees awarding TABC a 3-on-2 powerplay. Coach Mo Fuchs elected to go with seniors Yonatan Brothman, Aryeh Simon and Aiden Rauzman. Rauzman fed Simon who lasered the ball into the top corner of the net. In the second period, TABC added an insurance goal through junior Jaden Leffel. Leffel had time in his own zone and his shot had just enough power to go through the SAR goaltender’s legs.
SAR had opportunities to get back into the game but were unable to find a breakthrough due to fantastic goaltending from senior Shia Forgash. TABC won by a final score of 2-0 and improved to 5-0 on the season heading into the Thanksgiving break.
