The MTA Lions and Hillel Heat faced off again this week, and this time it was a totally different story. After getting blown out 73-40 in their last matchup at the Cooper Invitational Tournament, MTA came back with a vengeance and pulled off a huge 51-46 win. This game was intense from start to finish, and the Lions proved they’re not a team to count out.
Senior Josh Treuhaft was an absolute beast again, dominating in the paint with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. He wasn’t letting anything go easy for Hillel under the rim. Fellow senior Jakey Abenaim was on fire, leading the team with 19 points while grabbing three rebounds and dishing out 11 assists. It felt like every time MTA needed a big play, Jakey delivered.
Junior guard Efraim Avramov chipped in eight points, hitting some clutch shots when the Lions needed them most. Andi Richman added five points, and Gavi Engel was a defensive anchor with four blocks, locking down Hillel’s offense late in the game.
This win was huge for MTA, especially after what happened in their last game against Hillel. The Lions showed a ton of heart and fought hard to prove they’re a legit team. If they keep playing like this, watch out for MTA in the next big tournament!
