As part of the Nutrition and Food Science unit in the ninth grade Health Science elective, students explored healthy eating and food energy. Dr. Rena Zelig, Director of the Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition Program at Rutgers University (and mother of ninth grader Rebecca), visited the class to discuss nutrition. The students enjoyed a make-your-own fruit and vegetable salad and the next day, the students built soda can calorimeters to measure the calorie content of various snack foods.
