Park East Wins Historic Championship

On a Thursday night where Champions were crowned, Park East Day School coed basketball team made history by winning their school’s first basketball sports championship. The playoffs were all in one day, at a beautiful school called Basis Independent Brooklyn. The top four teams made the playoffs.  Park East was the 1st seed and played the 4th seed German School of Brooklyn, while the 2nd seed CO-OP played the 3rd seed Greene Hill as semi final matchups— winners move on to the championship.

The first semi final, was between Greene Hill and CO-OP school, back and forth that game went, #0 the best player on CO-OP was doing everything he can offensively and defensively while #7 on Greene Hill was shooting like Steph Curry all game, hitting 3 after 3 after 3 pointer. And in the end, CO-OP held on for a 27-25 win, with a bit of controversy at the end. A couple of questionable calls in the final seconds of that game, CO-OP moved on. Park East and German School of Brooklyn played next, the winner playing CO-OP school for the League Championship, a low scoring defensive battle, with Park East holding on to win 16-10. Then a rematch on a bigger gym court, CO-OP vs Park East. Last time they met, Park East came back and beat them 33-32, after Mark Diary of Park East was fouled on a 3 in that game. This game was absolutely crazy, with a lot of controversy. In the beginning, CO-OP went up 10-0. As their best player #0 scored all points, making 2 layups and 2 shots from behind the 3 point arc. Then controversy began, #7 on CO-OP the 2nd tallest player, fouled out of the game within the second quarter, receiving a technical foul as his 5th. Park East then scored 7 straight points, all by Park East’s #11 Mark Diary to trail 10-7 at the half. Then to start the third quarter, Mark find #1 Nate Ottensoser for a layup and the teams went back and forth with buckets and defensive stops, #0 on CO-OP was up to 3 fouls after the third, but CO-OP led 15-11. After another bucket by Park East made it 15-13, more craziness happened, #0 of CO-OP picked up 2 more fouls with 3:38 left in the game, he had fouled out of the game. After a tech on the CO-OP’s bench, Park East trailed 15-14, and took control, they went on a 11-2 for the rest of the game, to win their school’s first ever sports championship. They stormed the court and celebrated! Then they were given by the league commissioner the First place gold trophy and first place gold medals.  With the win, March 13, they’ll play Shefa in their building for a chance to win an ultimate championship. What a moment for Park East Day School. Congratulations Park East Panthers!
