(Courtesy of Fleetwood Synagogue) The get-together was virtual but the ruach certainly wasn’t.
Fleetwood Synagogue hosted a community-wide menorah lighting and latke fry on Zoom to celebrate Chanukah “together” as best as possible given the circumstances.
The evening started with communal candle lighting and singing. Rabbi Daniel Rosenfelt then shared some ideas about the miracles of the holiday and how we can think about them in this difficult year.
The event then moved to each congregant’s kitchen where everyone got out the frying pan, potatoes and oil, of course, and made fresh latkes. The experience had the feel of a live studio audience cooking show, where everyone was a participant. Everyone had a communal first bite of latkes together.
There were no reports of leftover latkes.
