The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Jake Levine as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Levine is an eighth grader at the Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva (RPRY) and was a key member of the Highland Park Owls who finished the season 13-4 with a heartbreaking loss in the fall 12u intercounty league championship game. Levine hit.585 Batting avg in 26 games, and was the ace of the staff throwing two no-hitters while collecting seven wins. When asked about his pitching ace, Coach Jeremy Renna told The Jewish Link, “On the mound Jake’s ball cuts through the strike zone at odd angles making him nearly impossible to make solid contact against. At the plate Jake has worked hard to get more aggressive in his approach, while he could catch up to the hard fastball he wasn’t punishing pitchers for slower velocity. He worked hard at practice and learned to get the bat head out in front and really began driving the ball.”
Jake, congrats on a great Owls season and collecting the team MVP award. Who is your role model and why?
Coach Renna, because he coaches us and does a lot of cool sports things.
What is your favorite sport?
Soccer, basketball and baseball. I play all three competitively and enjoy them all.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
I threw two no-hitters and a one-hitter during this baseball season.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Either David Ortiz because he was my favorite player on the Red Sox or LeBron James because he is my favorite basketball player. Both are really talented but still work hard to be great.
What is your earliest sports memory?
Rovers soccer clinics with Coach Spencer in the fall. I started right around the time I turned 3.
What is your favorite sports memory?
When my brother scored the penalty kick goal to win the State Cup game in soccer this year. We were tied after a full game and two overtimes and had gone to penalty kicks to decide the game.
What is your weirdest sports memory?
In a baseball game, one of my teammates hit a homerun but they took it away from him because he threw the bat back at the catcher.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Play video games.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
Always being able to play sports with my teammates.
