On Monday evening, June 24, Yeshivat Sha’alvim and Sha’alvim for Women will acknowledge its accomplished graduates and many years of advanced Torah learning at its 53rd Annual Dinner, chaired by Stuart Wagner’ (‘80-’81) at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, in New York.
After the Six Day War, Sha’alvim for Men, located in the Ayalon Valley between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, became a hesder yeshiva. There, Israeli students, side-by-side with students from all over the world, gather together to learn Torah, while developing midot, skills, and friendships that will guide them for their future lives.
Ten years ago, Sha’alvim for Women was opened in Jerusalem. Like their male counterparts, the young women who attend the exclusive seminary continue and enhance their post-high school Torah education, attaining knowledge that will tremendously impact on their lives. This special anniversary year pays special tribute to the 500 alumni who have accomplished this high level of learning.
This year’s honorees clearly demonstrate the success of these schools. The accomplished Guests of Honor are Mrs. Sarah and Dr. Jonathan Paley well noted in their community. Dr. Paley, an orthodontist in Israel, maintains a close connection to his alma mater.
Also recognized are Rabbi Mordechai Gershon, Assistant Rabbi of Congregation Ahavath Torah in Englewood, as Rabbinic Alumnus of the Year. Rabbi Gershon is almost the 50th alumnus of the yeshiva to achieve this distinction. Elisheva Frist (05) will receive this year’s Service Award for her many contributions to SFW as a madricha and teacher. Talia (’05) Miller Eis, SFW Alumna of the Year, will be honored along with her husband, David Eis. It was in Talia’s own home that the idea for SFW was born. The evening will also pay tribute to its corporate honorees, Willie Hochman, CEO of the Joel Paul Group and close friend to Yeshivat Sha’alvim along with Joel Paul, its president.
The evening will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m. followed by the dinner and program at 6:45. Don’t miss this special opportunity to reconnect with respected Torah leaders and teachers and hear words of chizuk and Torah. Reserve now at www.shaalvimdinner.org or call 718-677-7200.
