Yom HaShoah is the day designated to annually commemorate the Holocaust, the tragic result of the Final Solution. That was the name given to the plan to exterminate the Jewish people, masterminded by Adolph Hitler. What would people think if part of that commemoration was to bake pastries in the shape of Hitler’s moustache, name them Hitlertaschen and then send them with love to friends and family? They would be outraged! They would shout from the rooftops with righteous indignation “How insane is it to honor the evil mastermind of the plan to exterminate our people?!”
But isn’t that exactly what we do on Purim when we bake hat-shaped Hamantaschen, the pastry named after Haman, the evil mastermind of the very same plan, to exterminate the Jewish people?
