The week of May 11 was one in which BPY students in several grades were able to see how their in-school learning is evident in the world, and for them to have lots of fun while they learned. First grade students enjoyed a trip to Museum Village, where they visited a one-room schoolhouse, log cabin and barn. They also experienced making candles at the candle shop. It was enlightening for the students to be able to see buildings from the time period in history that they had studied.
Second graders enjoyed a trip to the Turtle Back Zoo, where each student was able to see, up close and in action, the animals being studied in school. After having thought of their own designs for zoo exhibits, it was interesting for the students to see the actual exhibit at the zoo. Meeting with some of the zoo keepers who are involved in designing exhibits gave the second graders behind-the-scenes information.
Grades five through eight participated in team building activities and hikes in nature; they had experiences that helped them learn about themselves, build confidence and strengthen their bonds with one another. The fifth grade students headed up to Greenkill Outdoor Environmental Center, the sixth and seventh grades visited Boston and the eighth graders traveled to the Delaware Water Gap.
